Prison

There is far too much emphasis on punishment and there are nowhere near enough constructive opportunities for those in prison. For the majority of people sent to British prisons the system does not work.

Single cell accommodation was invented many years ago: where is it now?

Why should prisoners be discouraged from attending classes and groups which are available by being paid more for doing work activities?

Perhaps many people who are sent to conventional prisons would benefit from being somewhere more useful to both themselves and the public in general.

Prisons need to be successes, not failures.

More positivity, More proactivity!

Yes, very important issue here. Brings to mind the System of a Down song, "They're tryin to build a prison, another prison system..." As crime escalates the government's answer is to be harder on criminals and lock them up for longer... meaning less space for the REAL criminals such as rapists and murderers. Its a serious problem and worsening rather than improving. I hear of people spending 20+ years with no chance of parole for selling marijuana while child molesters go to prison and are out in a few years to molest again. Come on people! Let's get a grip. With so many important domestic issues to deal with you would think America would quit running around in some god-forsaken sand pit and deal with some of these problems...but you would be wrong.
